JOINING PLATES AND PROFILES USING EXPANSION FASTENERS

With the growing evolution of construction methods for steel structures and the constant innovation of architectural designers, there is a need for specific fastening systems to anchor metal structures to different types of base materials, such as solid concrete, ceramic blocks and bricks. The Codbolt system was developed to meet the demands and needs of the market for joining elements in metal structures (tubular profiles, square profiles or even in situations where it is not possible to access the other side of the structure to make a conventional joint).

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Grade 5 bolt -
Minimum Tensile strength: 828 N/mm²
Minimum Yield strength: 635 N/mm².
Metal sleeve and expander cone - Low carbon steel material.
Structural flat washer - Medium carbon steel material according to ASTM F436.

SYSTEM DETAILS

The system consists of joining metal elements using the mechanical expansion fastener by the accommodation method, i.e. the metal Sleeve expands to a larger size than the nominal size of the hole by displacing the cone, generating an anchor point.

APPLICATION METHOD


  • Drill the hole with the indicated diameter
  • Insert the Codbolt into the hole, passing through the plate and the profile
  • Use one wrench to hold the hexagon of the sleeve and use another to torque the bolt
  • When the bolt is torqued, the cone is raised, causing the sleeve to expand, locking the plate or beam to the hollow profile
  • Once the torque has been completed, a clamping action is established between the plate and the profile, forming a secure connection with a bolt finish

APPLICATIONS
